I've finally made it back to the office after being out since before Thanksgiving.  I am SO sorry for not posting regularly from Achievers.  It was an awesome experience talking to and hearing from so many IBOs about what they're doing in the field and what they still need from us.  Most of the conversations I had revolved around the reputation of our business and what we can do to have an impact on that.

We talked about creating greater visibility for our opportunity; doing a better job of telling our stories.  We talked about backing up our stories with credible facts, figures and testimonials (the kinds of things we provide at www.ThisBizNow.com).  And we talked about responsibility, where we actually walk the talk.  That means open, honest, and transparent communications -- from us and from IBOs in the field.  Over my next several posts I want to talk more about these themes and I would love your feedback here.  I've already heard A LOT at Achievers.  Yesterday I presented some of the things we're doing at Quixtar at the Direct Selling Association's Marketing & Communications Seminar in Washington D.C.

There, I met Dr. Steve Price who provided a great perspective on web reputation, which I also will talk more about in a future post.  His book, WWW Stands for "World Wide Whiners" is just outstanding.

Anyway, that's where I'm at.  I arrived home around 11:30 p.m. yesterday and came into the office just to catch up, create an urgent report and attend a conference call. I'm heading back home to spend a long weekend with my kids and my wife (whom I haven't seem much of since Thanksgiving).

So typical. ibofightback and VP Rob Davidson suggest that critics are whiners and quitters (also implied on this blog) and these critics were not willing to put in the "work" that is required to build a Quixtar business. IBOfightback, Rob and Robin all conveniently leave out the fact that many of these "whiners and quitters" put in hundreds of hours being "trained" by high level Quixtar IBOs who were (all of the time) profiting on the training.

Were the whiners trained to build a profitable business?

Hardly. They were trained to never miss any training. Trained  to listen to tapes and CDs, attend meetings and listen to voicemail. Trained to make sure that anyone they sponsor gets plugged into the training.

It is not hard to figure out if the training was (is)  effective...look at the number of new and re-qualified Quixtar diamonds over the last 10 years.

If you do something great, you will probably have critics, but if you do something bad, expect a lot more. There is probably a good reason why Quixtar has arguably the worst reputation in the Network Marketing industry.

Please note that I've never said all critique on the Web about Quixtar is invalid.  I'm merely pointing out that there is not the balance you'd expect if everyone interested in this topic actually participated.

I agree with MLMBlog's comments. "IBOs" are trained to be trained, NOT to be flexible or independant or spontaneous.

I have two thoughts.

ONE. "Independant" "business" "owners" are being sold an endless stream of self-help and motivatiosal material (CDs, literature) and conferences -- having to spend a LOT of money -- all under the promise of the bigger picture, which is that soon they will be financially independant. Could this all be nothing more than a clever way for a company to sell and keep on selling their motivational materials? What better way to keep people buying? It's a captive audience, so to speak. Is N21 just a glorified self-help bookstore?

TWO. I am deeply concerned personally because people dear to me have joined N21, and for the last 2-plus years have changed EVERY aspect of their lives in order to "succeed" (as success is defined by N21). They are still 100% convinced they will retire at a very young age -- although the 3 years they were told has almost past and they are still nowhere NEAR that point, despite their endless work for N21! They have literally put their lives, interests, even their families on hold (and alienated many people along the way sadly)in this quest of theirs. It has begun to resemble a CULT in that they are increasingly fanatical, and any criticisms (even questions) aimed at N21 are met with well-rehearsed speeches (self-help CDs at work) or defensiveness. Isn't ANYTHING a little scary when we are no longer allowed to question it?!? And if these hard-working dedicated people for whatever reason dDON'T "make it" and wind up having to work at "J.O.B.s" in the end like the rest of us "MIFFED" whiners, what then? Is there an N21 book that helps you put back the pieces of your life, or are you just out the back door branded "failure"? Yes, I know some N21 people do great things (World Vision donations, etc.) but I find it a little scary that these friends are so convinced that they need to FIRST "retire before 35" and THEN they'll be able to "do so many good things for people" -- what kind of a mess do you have to make of your life before you can get to that ppoint?? Your friends will ONLY be your "business" friends, I guarantee it, if you have offended and driven away everyone else -- but justifying it by saying, in effect, "if you're not with us you're against us"??

By the way the above photograph, of the fiercely enthusiastic fellow speaking almost-indecipherable N21-speak, terrifies me.

And as a professional book reviewer, let me add that Dr. Price's "Whiners" book also mentioned above is blatant, silly, and extremely poorly written -- yet terrifying, because there are those who treat is as gospel truth (like my friends). Anyone who questions us is wrong? One word: propoganda.

wow! Hannah and MLM blog had some blistering things to say.  I fear that she will take one group and make the mistake of generalizing. Many groups use quixtar as a tool to make money. I don't know what she is talking about when it comes to buying endless self-help books and Cd's.  I have always been given mine free by my upline and after I am done reading I send them down my lines.  The only time I have bought a book is when i got something that impacted my life or my business out of it.  I bought extra copies so that I could give them to each of my downlines and they could send them on down. I have also bought "tools" because my downline asked me about those topics.  We constantly borrow ideas, books, CD's, and everything else.  Thats what a team does!  Our group may be the exception, but when I say group I am talking about the entire Ayers's team (not a small group). Your complaint about alienating friends is sad, I'm sorry that there are some hard facts in life.

1. It's easier to "change your friends" than to "change" your friends. My dad told me that and he has never been a big supporter. Maybe your friend decided it was easier to change who his friends were than to try to change you, but he did know that he or she wanted to change themselves.

2. Birds of a feather do flock together. Doesn't mean they don't like other birds, but they don't associate with them as much.

3.  Iron sharpens Iron as one man sharpens another.  The Bible had a good point.  You become like those you associate with.  So associate with winners, you can define that however you want to, but after you define it go find one and hang around them.  You'll start thinking and acting like a winner.

Most everyone who has written on this blog has talked about their disappointment with money.  I think the reason many people stay even though the big money hasn't come in is for the intangibles. When I started my wife and I were struggling. I had started a second job, trading hours for dollars to make a better life for us, but I was losing my wife along the way.  We started building our business and found that we make a great team.  Now, I have left the part-time job (just-over-broke) and work a part-time business with my wife and we have a stronger relationship for it.

About a month ago my upline drove 45 minutes to come help me change my tire.  He was at work and asked if he could take an early lunch, and he came.  I had called several other friends, but they were at work too, or had something else.  Was I lucky? Maybe?  But my upline has proven that it's not just about the money.

I have seen first hand people with no financial interest in me help me.

I moved recently and invited everyone to come help move (we needed the help). 14 people showed up, 2 friends, 2 downlines, 1 upline, and 9 other ibo's just there to help!

I don't agree with the philosophy that some are spreading that they will wait till Emerald or Diamond to give to charity.  To whom much is given, much is required!  If you want blessings, you need to bless others!

These things are why I'm in business!

Oh, by the way, I claimed 100K income last year excluding my Quixtar checks.  So its not about the money.  It's about lifestyle!!!!
