A Wedding
Friday, September 21, 2007

This weekend I'm off to Canada to attend the wedding of my oldest nephew, Dan, to Carling. I'm looking forward to it because it will be the first time I've seen my dad and brothers and sister in more than a year.  Also, it's always cool to see two young people starting their life together.

The wedding will take place in Kincardine, a beautiful little town along the shores of Lake Huron. The only aspect I'm not looking forward to is the drive -- something like five hours, depending on how long it takes me to cross the border -- especially since we're travelling there the morning of the wedding.

It will be a quick trip, back Sunday night, since school IS in session and we're in the middle of a VERY busy time here at Quixtar.  The past few weeks I've been doing a lot of work on the upcoming issue of Success from Home (December issue, on newsstands Nov. 1). It's coming together but the process is never with hiccups and bumps. I've truly enjoyed the IBO, business and product stories I've had the pleasure of reviewing, though.  I think you'll find it to be a great resource to explain the Quixtar business to your prospects.

THEN, next Tuesday morning I leave early for New York to speak at The Conference Board on Wednesday about web reputation. I'm looking forward to sharing with conference attendees our experience in setting up the Opportunity Zone and dialog that has resulted.

So, that's my schedule til next Thursday. What are you up to?

UPDATE: The Results are IN!

I would think that to be a challenging speaking engagement in regards to Qs internet reputation.  How do you keep a good reputation when some of the facts have finally been released.  Will you be recording this I would love to here the answer if the question it asked, "who is guilty for all this negative media."  In my experience thus far with your company I would not be surprised for the blame to be placed on IBO's who have miss represented the opportunity.  I hope the leaders in the room challenge you on your response if that is your answer.  The reason for the majority of negative media is caused by the realization of the problems the partnership presents the IBO's.  Not only are we blamed for any problems presenting the company we are apparently charged for them with un retailable products.  At least everything is great on the company's end.  I'm sure these matters will all be resolved as Q releases some better sales training.  that should fix the problem of 9 dollar toothpaste.

You're right, Adam, it is a challenging topic. Our reputation with the general public is based on their interaction with this company, whether that be as an IBO or former IBO, a customer or former customer, people who have been approached with the opportunity and/or products, and those who simply know about us based on others' experiences (whether they hear that from one of the above or from a news report).

.

Anyway, the presentation is less about blame for our poor reputation and more about what we're doing about it, including having this open dialog where a variety of viewpoints, including your own, can be shared.

.

Thanks for sharing, Adam!

I think it speaks volumes about you as a person that you would be willing to take the time and respond.  Don't you think much of this could have been resolved with lower prices?  Then the retailing is not a problem, volume over profit per unit, ect, ect....  Wouldn't that fix so much?

Good luck with that conference.  Q is obviously the example of "what not to do", right?  That should be easy for you guys to teach on.

Adam,

What would lowering the prices do?  I have no problem retailing products to customers, and since the free shipping I have many "former" customers coming back.

In my opinion, by lowering the price of products it lowers our profit margin, therefore I will have to sell more product to more people to achieve the same profit. That seems harder to me and a big waste of my time.

Now if your thought is leave the PV/BV where it is and lower the price, well that is just naive on your part and unfair.

Marrie,

Didn't your parents ever teach you, "if you don't have anything nice to say, then say nothing at all"??

Why don't you provide something worth reading about besides quick pot shots that only satisfy your own conscience.

Adam, I can understand some of your frustration as I've had it too on a range of things. But some prices have been adjusted, more are being considered, and the new retail-competitive Home line (see Susan's reply to one of my posts under the Branding thread on her blog) coming in 2008 may respond to some of your concerns. The hiring of retail competitive product development specialist Steve Lieberman as our new president sent a huge positive signal to those of us who were listening... I'm very excited.

.

Adam, the key thing for me is that Quixtar/Alticor/Amway IS LISTENING and responding, and I think they are going, and have gone light years forward in improving reputation. Personally, I've had zero issues lately around "reputation" when presenting either product to a Customer or the plan to a potential business associate.

Best wishes for your business success!!! :)

Marrie, to be honest, Quixtar IS setting the example of what to do. Robin's blog is a first rate example of that. And the actions they've taken in various ways to bring the focus back to moving product is another example. Some won't like it and will exercise their right to resign and do something else. Many many others will get excited and grow profitable businesses based on strong retail sales and sponsoring others who want to do the same.

.

Robin, thanks for setting a great example and keeping your eyes focused on the goal!!!
