More on Facebook

Ok, I've become a little addicted to Facebook. Well, I'm not too obsessed but I do pull up my profile daily and try to do at least something to generate some activity a couple times a week.

For instance, yesterday I created a group site for all people with the surname Luymes.  There aren't that many of us, and I make the case on  the group site that we must all be related.  All the ones in Canada are for sure ... there's a group in Iowa and I think they probably are distant relatives since there's only a handful of Luymes' in the Netherlands, from whence we originated.

Well, I sent out invites to my family and cousins and second cousins plus all others with the Luymes surname (five pages worth).  Already a goodly number have accepted the invites, including members of the Canadian contingent, the U.S. contingent, and the Netherlands contingent.

The point is, I'm making connections with individuals from around the world based on a common interest, which is, who are we? I'm hoping that someone who joins the group has done some serious study of the family tree and will help enlighten us all!  In any case, a site like Facebook helps make this easier than ever before.

I now find myself in conversations about new web site developments thinking about Facebook-type apps that could be integrated into our programs. I'm thinking more and more about how to re-establish old connections with friends and acquaintances, or how to create new connections with people of similar interests.  To me, a people person, this is exciting.  I think it should be very exciting to IBOs as well.  In fact, for younger IBOs who have used Facebook or MySpace since they were teens, these social media sites probably already are important tools in their business.

Robin,

I agree face book helps make connection with individuals easier.  I queried my high school grading class on face book and sent a hello message to a old classmate.  She did not remember me at first however after look at my picture closer and few more details on who I was, see said I was a blast of the past (about 18 years).  Well I too have look at my site at least once a day.

Robin,

I have been paying attention to the proliferation of WEB 2.0 Colloboration tools including Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace etc..towards enhancing an IBO's business. By most observations these tools have created pools of communities/networks of common interest somewhat of a non-profit/hobby/entertainement clusters.

Now the challenge seems to be taking this Community concept to the Business level or Affiliated Marketing. We know that there are easy to understand affiliated internet models such as Amazon etc..The advantage we have is the Personal Touch not just the High Tech as proven for the last 50+ years. So we clearly distinguish our IBO business. But I do not want to rest on our laurels or be complacent.

It is great that these blogs are excellent in that regard. Now my question is How can we tie these web tools to raise our Quixtar powered business to new Heights while preserving the high touch to make us the best and most innovative the industry ?. Thanks for your feedback.

Editor's Note:  Exactly.  How do we use these tools?  That's the next wave for us, I think.   RL
