More than ads
Monday, April 07, 2008

Thanks to everyone who has commented on the ads discussed in the last post. The USA Today (plus Canadian counterparts) ad is really just the beginning, with much more coming on TV and elsewhere.

Beyond that, PR and Sponsorships also are going to create additional brand awareness for the company. This week I have to create some final presentations for senior management, but last week we essentially received approvals to move forward with a whole slate of programs. I'm not going to go into details (yet!) but it involves getting the Amway and key brand (Nutrilite and Artistry) names out in front of target audiences.  From a major partnership with an international organization that will help create national and local presence to sponsorship of events that allow us to provide brand experiences to consumers, there's a lot in the works!

I don't want to go into details because, while we have approvals to proceed, we need to actually pursue the specific partnerships and sponsorships, and I wouldn't want to announce any particular element prematurely.

The work on that front has been intense, which is one of the reasons I haven't created a post in some 10 days. After getting back from Prague it's been nonstop ... but exciting! Let's just say that in my 16+ years with the company, we've never had the resources to work with that we're looking at now. This year and next is going to be a lot of fun, and I sure hope you're all ready. Between the 15 regional spotlight events (U.S. and Canada) and the number of things we'll be doing through our PR/Sponsorships campaigns, we WILL be coming to a town near you SOON!

Ok. Back to work for me.  Hope you're all doing well.  Spring has arrived in Michigan, so there's pretty much a collective sigh of relief here. Take care!

I like the aggressive approach.

Hi Robin,

Thank you for the update. I was wondering if the Transformation Launch Calendar could be updated in advance rather than after Quixtar/Amway has implemented an activity. I noticed it's been more of a record-keeping tool rather than a calendar which is supposed to keep us up to date on what is coming in advance so that we as IBOs are prepared. Rather, we've been finding out about new products an d activities through the What's New or OZ, but it would be great to know about what other great things are in store for us and when they are planned to launch via the calendar. I realize that some things are not set in stone, but keeping us in the loop I think will get us more excited about promoting anything new and is in line with the company's goal of being more transparent.

Also, another question is with all this advertising coming up, what is the corp doing to help non-Platinums manage the possible influx of orders. (Platinums are obviously getting increased orders from clients in their local areas who do not have a servicing IBO). My main concern is the lack of attention that has been given to our personal websites which is such a great tool. There have been repeated requests from IBOs on various blogs for more freedom to customize, an interface that is in line with the main Quixtar site, an email marketing solution to lead clients back to our sites after their initial purchases to help retain customers and repeat orders. Other direct sellers are already ahead of the pack: look at any Mary Kay consultant's interactive website with their 'virtual makeover' tool or Arbonne with their customized specials/bios for each consultant. Any progress on this in the next month or so?

It would be great to continue to highlight partnerships or endorsements by third parties so I look forward to hearing what the PR/Sponsorship campaign is all about. Some people have mentioned on other blogs to use well-known celebs (or celebs that are actually doing the biz) or featuring our products in well-known TV shows. For example, Shaklee got huge press for their "green" cleaning products when they were featured on Oprah's list of favorite things. Weren't Amway products "green" way before green was "in"? I would personally like to see us capitalize on this movement as many are now concerned about our environment and it would be good to know that this company is environmentally concious and has been developing environmentally sound products and implementing sound practices from the beginning. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute.

.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Thanks E.rod.  Great suggestions that I will pass along or consider for our use!  I'm not charged with the Transformation updates, but I know who is so I'll be sure to let him know.  On Personal Websites you should go to the IT blog and ask them!  I know there are so many things to keep up with it's hard to keep all the plates spinning at the same time.  With regard to celebrities, we're not ruling anything out except that they're very expensive and cut into the $$ you'd actually spend on ad placements. There may be concerts or other events we sponsor (but should not be confused with celebrity endorsements, as that's a deal with the actual person). And lastly, Oprah. The Shaklee group had a major coup when their PR department placed their product on that show. We do pursue product placements like that as well, but when it comes to 'green' products they have a leg up on us right now in marketing their products because they're more singularly focused. I too hope we return strongly with our products because I agree that we were way ahead of the 'green' curve when we launched LOC and SA8.  Have a great day!!    RL

Speaking of celebrity endorsements, I'm a normal, little IBO, but I get paid in a similar way as Tiger Woods does.  Nike and Buick pay him millions to use their products.  Quixtar/Amway Global pays me to use XS Energy drinks, Simply Nutrilite, and a variety of other brands.  When I'm doing my daily activities, I always have a can of XS with me.  People often want to know what it is.  Many become my customers.

Therefore, please Quixtar/Amway Global, don't be concerned about celebrity endorsements.  That's how we, as IBOs, get paid.  Keep adding money to the IBO compensation plan, rather than paying some goofy celebrity millions of bucks.

Robin,

You mention product placement. Is the Corp open to that? You know you have IBOs in some high-profile industries...

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Yup. If the right opportunities present themselves, we're open to product placement within movies and TV shows.   RL
